MELT BANANA

For this year's Melbourne International Arts Festival (9-25 October 2009), the curators have called upon Japanese noise band, Melt Banana, to showcase their chaotic, intense and often spasmodic live performance.

This is the band's first tour to Australia so I was grossly disappointed to discover that they would only be playing the one show and not venturing interstate to Sydney for at least one sideshow.

Still, I had the pleasure of interviewing the band - which turned out to be quite humorous - to promote their debut Australian appearance.

For someone that wasn’t as familiar with your work, how would you describe your music and what to expect from a Melt Banana performance?

“Kyakyakyakaya kyuiiiiiin, gagagagaga!!” And imagine riding a rollercoaster.
