My First Time

I have loved music since I can remember. I'm sure everyone remembers their first CD and first concert. I am not ashamed to say my first CD was Hanson - Middle Of Nowhere and my first concert was Big Day Out 2003. For any young fan of music I just have one word of advise. Don't go to a big festival as your first experience. I was 16 and not at all prepared for what was in store. It was about 35 degrees and there were 50,000 or so people. A lot of the day is a blur to me. I was so overwhelmed and the heat was exhausting. I wanted to stay to see the Foo Fighters who were the headlining band so I hung around with my friends until it was time. We made our way to middle of the pit and waited for them to come on. The first song started and eveyone pushed to the front. Not knowing what was going on i was a bit scared and a lot smaller than most of the people in the crowd. I turned around and pushed my way out of the pit. For the rest of their set I watched from the back and enjoyed it. I learned a lot from this day. First of all, always take water, sunscreen and lip gloss to a full day festival. And secondly, as much fun as a mosh pit can be, sometimes its so much better to stand back and just watch the band do what they do best. Now when I go to festivals I like to enjoy the bands from the side or back or if lucky enough, from a patch of shade. Festivals are so much fun if you respect whats going on around you and be aware of where your friends are at all times. Nothing is worse than passing out from heat stroke or losing a friend in a group of 50,000 people.
