Double edged sword - pros and cons of an extended deadline
Many of us have obviously noticed that the ability to spew our thoughts across these pages is still apparent. Some (namely, me) have also noticed that new entrants are still popping up with their fresh, smiley-faced profile pictures, despite our previous assumptions that the competition had finally reached judgement day.
What does this mean?
On further investigation, I combed through the Terms and Conditions and discovered this little gem:
Entry for the My World Tour competition opens at 5:00pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) on 16 September 2009 and closes at 11:59pm AEST on 14th January 2010 (the Competition Entry Period).
and...
Finalists will be announced at 5:00pm AEST on 18 January 2010. Finalists will be required to attend further orientation regarding the My World Tour competition under the supervision, and at the sole expense, of Universal, including attendance at Good Vibrations Festival on 13 February 2010 as guests of Universal.
Woah!
I've had sleepless nights and unproductive (normal) work days filled with anxiety, nerves, excitement and hope, in anticpiation of the announcement of the extremely fortunate 6 finalists!
I've spent hours on end perusing everyone's profile in a desperate attempt to gauge any chance I had/have of landing the prestigious position of reporter for Get Music - Australia's hottest new total music destination!
I almost ended up in fisty-cuffs with my computer for not being as cooperative as I needed it to be on the night of the original closing date!
And now the entry period has been extended! It's here, that the double edged sword rears its acuminous blade.
In one aspect, this is going to mean a hell of a lot more work (and by work, I of course mean creative fun!). More blogging, more videos, more networking, more sleepless nights, more anxiety, more fights with the computer, more caffeine, more typing, more photographing, more....you get my drift. It also means more competition, more talent to go up against and a much bigger fight to the end.
In the glass half-full corner, the extended competition entry period is sensational in that I now have more time to entertain, converse, articulate, share my thoughts and artistic/journalistic endeavours, and prove just how worthy I am of being not only a Finalist, but also a Winner.
