PHOTOS: Les Claypool @ Enmore Theatre 2 December 2009
I have been a busy bee! However, you'd never think that due to my lack of blogging in these parts. This is all about to change though as I have much in the pipeline - on your marks...get set....GO!
Les Claypool - bass virtuoso and leader of Primus - visited Sydney's Inner West last Wednesday evening and unleashed his arsenal of complex rhythms and death defying melodic twists and turns that feature on his latest solo opus Of Fungi And Foe.
Lucky me was granted a press pass to cover the event. I was also pretty damn chuffed to score ticket No. 1, which has never happened to me before!
As usual, it was first three songs, no flash. Ample time to capture the very stylish Les Claypool, outfitted in a custom made steampunk-inspired tuxedo and his freakishly happy-masked band which included a cellist, drummer and percussionist.
There really is nothing like watching Mr Claypool play his ridiculously flamboyant bass lines live. He is fast. He is tricky. He is a bit of a show-off. But I would be too if I was blessed with even an incy wincy bit of his ability! And although his songwriting sometimes get a little too self indulgent for some, there is absolutely no reason not to have the utmost respect for someone with such a command over their chosen instrument.
